Is This Barbecue Sauce Really From Heaven?
Well, that depends on where your kitchen is located! However, you can always make up some fantastic story about this! But, it’s not from Heaven; it’s from your own kitchen! In addition to the usual foods you might prepare, you can use this on absolutely everything. And here’s an idea: it makes a great gift for friends who love to barbecue too. So What is in Barbecue Sauce?
So glad you asked! You’re going to begin with catsup/ketchup; either spelling will work just fine! Brown Sugar adds that wonderful sweetness that we crave! A good Red Wine Vinegar balances the sugar and adds some tang. Incidentally, we mustn’t leave out the water! Your own measurements of Worcestershire sauce and other seasonings and spices will make this recipe your own. Moreover, you will probably want to experiment a little with that. Every family has a preference, especially as to “hotness!” Just vary the amount of hot pepper sauce you use.
Barbecue Sauce from Heaven/Kitchen Recipe
This recipe was developed by JRNEUMILLER and updated in February 2023. You can find it and thousands of other recipes in ALLRECIPES You’ll find a lifetime of recipes!
- Brown Sugar, 1 & 1/2 cups
- Catsup/Ketchup, 1 & 1/2cups
- Red Wine Vinegar, 1/2 cup
- Water, 1/2 cup
- Worcestershire sauce, 1 Tablespoon
- Dry Mustard, 2 & 1/2 Tablespoons
- Paprika, 2 teaspoons
- Salt, 2 teaspoons
- Black Pepper, 1 & 1/2 teaspoons
- Hot Pepper Sauce, 2 dashes
Blend first five ingredients until smooth. Season with remaining spices and again blend until smooth. If you think the sauce is too runny, put it in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. My recommendation is to bring it to a boil regardless; flavors will meld better. This will also make the flavor more intense. However, it does not need to be cooked at all. Cut back on the brown sugar if you prefer it less sweet and increase the Worcestershire sauce if you want a stronger “steak sauce” flavor. Makes about 1 Quart.
Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Incidentally, some of the comments following the recipe mention that there’s too much vinegar in it. Therefore, maybe make your first batch with less than the 1/2 cup that it calls for. It’s easier to add more than to get any of it out! There’s a challenge for you! By the way, I’d like to try a batch with Apple Cider Vinegar?? A dollop of Molasses? Or Honey?

By the way, I get frequent emails from AARP and they offer some down-to-earth advice almost every time. One of their latest was about a barbecue and they suggest on having plenty of thirst-quenching drinks handy, of course. Possibly a canopy too, depending on the weather. Incidentally, we can’t “depend” on the weather any more! That’s all good, common sense. However, they also mentioned having bug spray; I might not think of that. Therefore, that’s a “word to the wise” if you haven’t thought of it. I have a cat-sitting client who barbecues on his patio and he has an assortment of insect repellents on hand. Perhaps one of those handy little roll-ons for your guests would help. You know better than anyone what little critters might show up! Preparation!
