Travel Recommendations from AARP aren’t just for Seniors! There’s some very useful information here for all of us. Save more money! We keep looking for ways to help you. Incidentally, several of these take a little preparation so plan ahead.
Possible Discounts
You can actually stay on point and have a great time. Fun doesn’t depend on how much you spend; it’s something you have to add personally and make up your mind that you will have a wonderful time. And relax!
Incidentally, the earlier you begin making plans, the better. You have time to find the best deals and possibly great discounts. By the way, traveling during the off-season usually saves you lots. Moreover, I have a website you will want to check; it’s a savings club. They have three levels of membership, beginning at just $20 a month. However, you must check it over carefully to see what level works best and saves you the most. SAVINGS CLUB
Travel Recommendations: Accommodations
AARP recommends passing up the expensive hotels unless you have an incredible deal already. Meanwhile, check out hostels, home-stays, or vacation rentals. However, if you want to stay in a hotel, book early and get a good discount. You can get those discounts with our savings club or through AARP.
Choices of Meals
Eating out could blow your entire budget so make sure it’s worth it. AARP suggests you get lodging with a small kitchenette so you can prepare your own food, at least part of the time. Moreover, I never go anywhere without my Taster’s Choice! Get some groceries at a local market and try your hand in that kitchen. Some locations are known for awesome fresh fruit! Traverse City, Michigan has those incredible sweet black cherries! In addition, Fredericksburg, Texas is famous for peaches. Incidentally, I could go on and on! (If you’ve never eaten fresh fruit right off the tree, you don’t know what you’re missing!) By the way, keep it simple! Maybe take a couple utensils along in case you don’t find them where you’re staying. If you need something new for travels, SEE UTENSILS
Travel Recommendations: Transportation
You can rent a car, use a taxi or Uber, but they are all fairly expensive. Maybe save those for special occasions. However, if you want a really authentic experience, catch the bus or subway. You will be part of the real world and these things can be a lot of fun. I rode a subway in Montreal years ago and it was fascinating! This is especially fun if you’ve never done it before! Be smart though and always be aware of your surroundings; better safe than sorry.
Free Activities
If you time things just right, many destinations have free events so you’ll want to check that out ahead of time. You can google the location and often find a calendar of events. I’m from northern Michigan and on Labor Day you could walk across the Mackinac Bridge! Just so you know; it’s over five miles long! However, you will be sharing the experience with thousands of others. Bayview Music Camp, just outside of Petoskey, Michigan has wonderful classical concerts all summer; free. I loved those every Sunday night. Explore before you actually go and see what you might enjoy.
