Dilly of a Dip

Dilly of a Dip will definitely get your household to eat more vegetables! The subtle flavors of assorted herbs along with the dill are absolutely delectable! So much better than store-bought dip! Moreover, it is better after spending a night in the refrigerator so make a big batch and bring on the vegetables! Incidentally, my favorites are mushrooms, cucumbers, green peppers and cauliflower. Try your favorites too. Incidentally, you can use it on anything that is good with dill. Especially Salmon.

Years ago, when I lived in Cheboygan, Michigan, my Aunt Ruth and cousin Carolyn came to visit. Not being much of a cook, I was so proud to serve this dip with our favorite veggies. Very easy to prepare and a beautiful dish! I can still see us in my sunny, little living room with this! It probably tasted even better because I was able to share it with them. It makes for great conversation! I hadn’t seen them in years and we made some very wonderful memories. Just for fun, my cousin and I painted our toenails to match!! Probably more information than you need, right? Getting together again would be so wonderful! Food helps create the best memories, doesn’t it? And occasionally food creates the worst memories! That’s just how it is!

Dill

Dilly of a Dip

Ingredients for Dilly of a Dip:

Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip, 1 cup

Sour cream, 1 cup

Dried dill, 1 teaspoon

Minced parsley, 1 tablespoon

Lipton onion soup mix, 2 teaspoons

Beau Monde seasoning (optional), 1 teaspoon

Garlic salt or garlic powder, 1 teaspoon

Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions for Dilly of a Dip:

Combine the above ingredients and mix well. Cover and chill for at least one hour. Serve with an assortment of raw vegetables. Makes two cups. Keep refrigerated. However, it won’t last because it is too delicious! What can I say!! Two cups is definitely not enough of this dip! That’s just enough for me!

Incidentally, although I usually leave out the Beau Monde seasoning, I had to google the stuff. Ernest Hemingway listed it in his favorite hamburger recipe! Having read that, I may have to try it again! After all, he was a fellow cat person! By the way, I still don’t know exactly what Beau Monde Seasoning is; I’ll keep digging!

Additional Information

I had to do some digging to learn a little more about Dill. I grew up with it being the garden. The only time we used it was when we had lots of cucumbers and were making pickles. By the way, my Grandma would have planted it sometime around 1900! I’m really curious about how she used it! I found a website giving all the details and it has medicinal uses!
